Stair Platform Tessellation

( in my parents Log cabin )

So when my parents and I built their log cabin, my sister's husband made the stairs out of maple, really nice....and my sister made a huge ceramic mosiac behind the stove. So I felt I should contribute some kind of installation art to the house...

M.C. Escher is one of my favorite artists, so I decided to use one of his tessellations to create an inlayed platform at the top of the second floor stairs. Of course this was 3 years ago, but now I have finally gotten around to doing it. I used Cherry and Walnut for the tessillation and frame, then a piece of Maple for the tread. Take a look and let me know what you think!
